Many people refer to malicious software as the malware. This deadly software can ruin most of the functionalities of your computer. Malware can get to your computer through many mediums such as a floppy drive, CD drive, pen drive, internet etc. Internet is the main source of malware in most cases. There is a very well planned trap set up by the bad guys, to get your computer infected. A very lucrative sounding popup would appear to you, claiming to do a free virus scan on your computer. Once you invite it for the same, you have actually invited the trouble. You would soon be offered to install an anti virus program that would clean up virus from your computer. Many people also get fooled to pay for the fake anti virus. This is an ugly situation, wherein you could end up paying for getting your computer ruined.

The term scareware also refers to the same malicious software. Microsoft has come up with a study that reveals about 4.4 million computers infected by scareware. Some of the scareware you should keep away from are: Personal antivirus, XP antivirus, DriveCleaner, RapidAntiVirus, Antivirus?09, and WiPC antivirus.

How to clean up malware? You may have already infected your computer before you read this article. Sadly, the remedies are not the easiest of all. However, we look to discuss all the remedies and the best one for you, right here in this article.

Take a back up of your important data, before you choose to do anything at all. Sometimes you may lose your important files when trying to clean up malware from your computer. Back up could be taken on your flash USB drive, Floppy drive (if sufficient), or on a CD drive. Once you have taken a copy of your important files, you are ready to fight the malware.

One mistake that many people make is that they install an anti malware software on an already malware suffering computer. This will most likely do no good for you. The malware will nine out of ten times protect itself from the anti malware. You should have installed the anti malware long before, when your computer was healthy. It may be too late now.

An alternative is to install and run an anti malware software in safe mode. Once in safe mode, the computer would not allow the malware or any other programs to perform any independent operations. This will allow you to use your anti malware program to scan and clean up the computer. The sad part is that sometimes your OS may also be infected with malware. In such cases, the safe mode will not help the cause either.

Nothing works as well as disconnecting your troubled hard disk from the computer, and connecting it to another safe and malware protected computer. The hard disk must be connected as slave. The anti malware on the computer would do a good job cleaning up the slave hard disk. You may perform the operation on a variety of computers having different anti malware software installed. This would guarantee a clean hard disk.

If the situation favors you, formatting the hard disk could be the best option of all. No remedies would be required in this case. Simply format and install a fresh copy of OS.
