The other day a couple of friends came over. I wanted to show them this video I’d made, and uploaded to YouTube. I had been telling them about it for a while, and they really wanted to see it. When it finally came time to watch it, my computer was really slow. I thought maybe it was a problem with YouTube, so I went to another site where I uploaded it. Same problem.
Every site had the same problem. Sometimes the graphics wouldn’t even load, they just showed a blank spot where the picture was supposed to be with a small red “x” up in the corner. Finally my friend decided to call his Internet service provider to see what was up. The Internet provider lady asked what kind of spyware program my friend was running, but he didn’t really know. She supposed that was the problem.
Spyware and adware are two kinds of viruses that you can easily download without knowing it. They load up into your memory, and steal all your computer resources. This is why they make your machine so slow. It’s like they cut to the front of the line when your computer decides who gets what resources. The purpose for their existence is to scan your system, and collect private information.
Many times this information is only about what kinds of sites you visit, so they can send you different, targeted advertising. Like if you always visit movie sites, you might get pop up ads for video rentals or something. Other times, these programs try to get your actual personal information, like your name and email and stuff. It’s hard to stay anonymous when these programs are on your computer.
The best way to get rid of them is with a good spyware or adware removal software system. These routinely check your machine for programs that aren’t supposed to be there, and get rid of them. They also guard your computer against further attacks.
If you haven’t done so, I really recommend you get yourself a good spyware and adware removal tool, so this doesn’t happen to you. If you aren’t properly protected, you can waste a lot of time trying to figure out why your computer is so slow.
