Technology is racing forward so quickly that even the technophiles are getting lost in the dust of progress. Not that many years ago, a hidden video camera wasnt really easy to hide because they were so bulky and unreliable. Now, almost anybody can afford one that is tough as nails, reliable as the suns coming up and cheap.

Security cameras dont just have to be used for crime prevention. You can use them to get proof about whos dog is making a mess in your front yard. You caught someone sneaking around your property, but couldnt get a good look at him although you are pretty sure he looked familiar. The perfect solution to this one is a camera that is camouflaged as a floodlight. It is motion activated and feeds a video signal to an internal video recorder. The intruder is being recorded and doesnt even know it. The police love it.

The business environment is really tough right now. Profits are slim or not there at all. If you own your own business, you cannot afford employee theft. One well placed hidden security camera can end all that. An excellent example is someone I know. He owns a liquor store and knew that a lot of stock was disappearing. Try as he might, he couldnt find where it was all going and who was doing it. One day, he installed a hidden video camera in the exit sign above the rear door. That day, he caught the janitor taking some bottles out in a garbage bag. End of theft.

The cameras that are mentioned above are called dvr cameras. They are wireless and have their own onboard memory which records to something called an sv card. They are motion activated. If animals or little kids might be around, you can program it to avoid movement in the lower quarter of the field of view, lets say. When you think youve got your prey imaged, you take the camera to your computer and download the memory.

Hidden video cameras are incredibly flexible. These are just two examples of their features.

Remember, these security cameras dont need to be wired to a network or even be in a position to allow a wireless signal to get through. Install it anywhere and suck the information off of it later to your computer. Most come with motion sensor programming which allows you to deaden whatever area you want so that animals or kids wont trigger it.

Where to hide them? Here are a few ideas. You can hide them in exit signs, wall clocks, coffee makers, floodlights, or garden ornaments. You name it.

Warning! These cameras have nothing to do with preventing crime. The best they can do is gather evidence. To stop crime, you want highly visible video cameras and that will be the subject of another article.
