For those that can master it, the Internet is fast becoming a source of far-reaching power. Companies and individuals with websites are able to market themselves efficiently by setting themselves apart from their competitors. Those that aren’t present online lose valuable business. However, many people considering hiring a web designer walk into the process with little to no knowledge of the web design process. This leads may lead to miscommunications and problems further down the road, sometimes costing the business thousands of dollars.

The first step in designing any website is figuring out what the business owner or individual wants. The price, layout, theme, fonts, colors, and number of pages will all be discussed during this phase. When this stage is complete, the designer will start creating pages in a design program such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.

These designs will then be submitted to the client. After the designer receives feedback on their designs they will go back and tweak the site until it looks exactly the way the client envisioned it. This phase is extremely important for the client. Once everything is finalized, clients will be charged additional fees if they request changes.

Once the pages are designed and approved, they will then be created in a program like Adobe Dreamweaver. This is where things will become difficult for the web designer. They will be working with html, divs, floats, and other highly complex tools. Once the pages designed have been recreated in Dreamweaver, there are other small details the designer will have to complete. The pages will all be linked together, all links will be examined, and any JavaScript or other affects will be tested to make sure they are working properly.

The last step is to purchase a web host and domain name and then upload the web pages. Sometimes this is done first or done during the design process. This last step will enable the website to come to life. Once the site is completely finished, the client will receive a password that will enable them to login and update and change things on the site. This password needs to be something hard to guess so that people cannot get on the site and change things. Safety is always important, but not just when it comes to a website. It’s also important to ensure businesses and homes are safe too. This can be done with a simple home security system.

Cyber identity theft is a real concern but it is really not that difficult. Knowledge is the best defence against cyber attacks. Once you start to use safe tactics online it will become very easy for you.

With the rising cost of gasoline people are doing their shopping at home online. Shopping in stores takes a certain security mind set but so does shopping at home on the internet. There is an old saying “follow the money” Scammers are taking that to heart.

When you indulge in online shopping you are relived from the stress of standing in line and dealing with other rude customers. Often the employees are not in a great mood either. A person can stay in the comfort of their own home and accomplish shopping with just a few clicks of a mouse.

One way to discourage thieves is through proper education. Make sure that your firewall is current and up to date. It is the best way to protect your computer from the outside world. A properly maintained firewall will filter data from the outside world.

A lot of people use one password for everything. It is best to have a different password for every account but it is strongly recommended to have a separate password for online banking and anything else that may involve money.

E-mails are another area where scammers are able to get in. You should never open an e-mail unless you are familiar with the person that sent it. Banks and other financial institutions will never ask for login information through an e-mail.

There are also activities that you can do with children and other family members that will allow you to supervise their use of the internet. If this is not possible to monitor them on a one on one basis you can supervise their activity on the net later. The sites that they like to visit online such as gaming or chat sites. It is important to know if they actually know the people that they come in contact with.

This will help you to set limits on their computer use. The sites that they visit should be age appropriate. It is not necessary to scare but instill in them a sense of awareness when they are on the net. This includes sites they are allowed to visit also.

Security to avoid cyber identity theft is not all that difficult. Once you learn very simple tactics it will be just like riding a bike. Part of learning defensive habits to avoid cyber identity theft are keeping up with the most current threats.

Spyware is malware that gets inside your computer and can do a lot of unwanted things. Not only can it record your browser history, make your computer work really slow, and make you have random pop-ups while browsing, it can steal your identity. Because of these possibilities, it is vital that you do whatever you can to prevent spyware from getting in your computer and erasing it if it has already made a home within your computer.

The best method for spyware removal and prevention is by buying anti-spyware software, which will cost you in the neighborhood of $40. You can also try out free programs such as Ad-Aware from Lavasoft. Keep in mind that there are a lot of ads out there advertising free spyware removal programs, which are actually spyware in disguise. A lot of these ads you’ll see in pop-ups.

Yes, you’re going to need software if you don’t want spyware. But there are also things that you should do by yourself to keep it from your computer…

You want your operating system and browser to always be on the latest version, so update them. It will also help if you use something other than Internet Explorer as it is the most popular browser and, consequently, the most targeted for spyware and other malware.

Don’t use P2P file sharing networks. If you download music or movies from them, you may very well be getting some type of malware. Some of these networks install spyware on your computer even if you don’t download music and/or movies from them.

Only download files from sites that you can trust. You should be very weary of downloading movies or music, especially ones that are free to download.

Your internet security setting, which you can adjust by going to tools, should be at decent levels (they should be at least medium).

Installing a firewall will make sure that someone cant get access to your computer from some remote place.

Do not install a free toolbar from an online company, which you’ve never heard of before. The toolbar may very well be spyware in disguise. It is best to download toolbars from trusted companies, such as Google.

A lot of people say that you should read the license agreements as well as the privacy statements when trying to prevent spyware. Rather than actually spending time reading this material, just be sure to only download from places that you trust.

by Amy Nutt

Every time you connect to the email, you’re taking a risk. Viruses, trojans, malware, spyware, worms, spam they’re all nasty stuff designed specifically to pillage personal information or cause general mayhem on your computer as it innocently communicates with others.

As the internet is very insecure by nature -ie anyone can load anything on it – you need to take cautionary steps to protect yourself. Even harmlessly browsing through sites may get your computer affected with a virus or spyware without you even knowing it. Email security solution is your protection against such intrusions and works by limiting your computer’s exposure to online threats.

Measures to take Basic measures involve protection by carefully selected passwords, file permissions and data backups. Unfortunately it doesn’t end there. In the age of enterprising cyber criminals, installing anti-virus software, a personal firewall, anti-adware and anti-spyware as well as browsing software is essential. Such software can be bundled into a suite for you to buy to take the stress out of finding them separately. Some security tasks are automatically performed by your operating system; others must be managed and monitored by the user to be effective.

The first line of defense is a firewall. It works by allowing your computer to only connect to trusted sources – kind of like a hardware or software device that acts like a fence around your computer. Both hardware and software firewalls use a number of different techniques to keep your PC and network safe with all data (incoming and outgoing) inspected to see if it is coming from and going to trusted ports and possibly even trusted IP addresses. You can usually tailor your firewall to suit your needs by allowing exceptions and adding programs and websites.

Virus and spyware protection software, meanwhile, help you keep your files safe. Hackers insert viruses and spyware in website HTML, text files and software programs. Once downloaded and activated, these programs can destroy files, copy passwords and banking details and damage software programs. A general anti-virus program scans for such viruses and spyware either deletes or quarantines them for you.

What is your responsibility? Users must also pay particular attention to common email security threats. Do not open email file attachments from unknown sources because this tends to be a major source of viruses. Clicking on active links in emails can redirect your browser to sites full of spyware, adware or worse. Phishing – or fake emails from trusted sources that ask for personal and financial information – can lead to identity theft. In general, your bank or credit card will never email a request for you to update your details. Common sense prevails here.

Warning Also be warned that new internet threats appear daily. Keeping your security software updated is essential to your security plan. Review the default internet security settings and update settings for your operating system, browser, email program and all installed security software often. Schedule a daily or weekly time for your virus and spyware software to run and report your security status. If you are frequently finding that your computer has been invaded by spyware or viruses, upgrade your software or select stronger protection options.

A good spyware removal tool is extremely important and one should be installed on every personal and business computer. Recently, major security companies like VIPRE and Mcafee has reported that the number of spyware which affect computers have been increasing day by day. It is expected to continue increasing exponentially in the near future. This is the very reason why you need to ensure your computer is equipped with an excellent spyware blocker so that it ensures that your computer does not get compromised.

Spyware Doctor is an awesome spyware blocker which I would definitely recommend. Firstly, it is very simple to use because of the simplicity of the design. This will be especially useful for computer users who have limited technical knowledge on the usage of computers. Spyware Doctor also has a high detection rate and it is able to remove anything which it detects effectively. You will find that some spyware blockers will be able to detect a rogue spyware but becomes totally useless when it comes to removing what it detected.

Malwarebyte Anti-Malware is an excellent spyware blocker and I would not hesitate in mentioning that it may possibly have one of the highest detection rates out of all spyware blockers because of its large spyware definition database.

Lavasoft Ad-aware is one of the old boys of the Spyware Blocker industry and it has quite a high reputation. One of the biggest benefits of having Lavasoft Ad-aware is its support system. There is a forum accessible through the official Lavasoft website where you can discuss problems with other Ad-aware users and they also have a live chat help system if your situation is urgent. Ad-aware also has a high detection rate although it may not be as great as Spyware Doctor and Malwarebyte Anti-malware. Ad-aware is available in three versions. The free version is very good but it lacks important features such as a real time protection system.

VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware may be one of the newer spyware blockers to appear in the industry but it has shot itself to glory and is one of the most highly rated spyware blocker in the market. The main reason for this is its high detection rate. VIPRE Antivirus + Antispyware has one of the most modern spyware removal engine which means it is able to detect and remove the majority of rogue spywares which appear on the internet.

If you are looking for a trusted spyware blocker which has been around for a number of years then Spybot Search and Destroy should be the one for you. It was one of the first to appear and the developers of Spybot Search and Destroy has always followed the same principle, allowing users to download it for free in order to tackle these major spyware problems. It may look slightly dull but don’t be fooled as it has a very good detection rate against rogue spyware and other forms of malware.

Identity theft is a growing problem that concerns anyone that has a computer. Cyber thieves use different tactics such as hacking, use of spyware, key loggers to obtain financial information from their victims computers.

The most recent scam to be wary of is called phishing, pronounced like fishing. The phisher sends a simple e-mail that appears to have come from a legitimate site, Usually from the person’s financial institution.

The e-mail would state that there is a problem with the account. The e-mail would ask you to click the link provided to resolve the matter. The link leads to a web site that looks exactly like that of your financial institution. You will then be instructed to fill out a form that will require your social security or credit card numbers, or some other confidential financial information.

There are ways to minimize your risk

Attackers may try to deceive you by creating web pages that seem to be legitimate. Do not click on any links in your e-mail. Open a new browser window and type the address in yourself.

Check privacy policies of sites that you do business with, to see how they distribute information. Most companies allow customers to request that their info not be shared with other companies.

Always be in a high security state of mind. Be wary of new sites and links, IM messages and e-mails.

Frequently check credit reports for odd transactions or transactions that you do not remember. Keep an eye out for unusual charges on your bill, bills for products or services you did not receive.

Call the Social Security office if your SS number has been accessed or the DMV if your driver’s license has been stolen. This is to warn these agencies of unauthorized use of your ID information. You will also need to file a report with local police.

The Windows registry is a sophisticated directory that stores your computer’s hardware and software settings and user preferences. When working properly, these settings enable your PC to work smoothly in order to give you a good user experience. In essence, the registry is the central nervous system of your computer’s operations. Every time anything happens on your PC, it is recorded in the registry.

Quite often the registry gets cluttered with redundant directories, and may need to be cleaned with a registry cleaner. A registry cleaner scans the registry of your system and identifies broken links, files, and any other information that is not needed or used by the PC. These may even be damaging entries that take up disk space and slow down your registry’s operations. In this context, a registry cleaner should be used every few weeks, depending on how often you use your PC.

There is a range of different types of registry cleaner available to buy, and each one operates differently. You might want to look into the range of registry cleaners that are available to select the one you feel will assist you the most. Equally, it is advisable to seek advice to find out what is the best registry cleaner for your computer’s set up.

There are many sites that compare and rate the top registry cleaners on the market, and these make your decision much easier. The best registry cleaners will give you the option to make backups of your registry first before making any changes. Some of the top registry cleaners are RegCure, Registry Easy, Registry Smart, Registry Fix, and Error Nuker.

Installing a registry cleaner is simple and safe, and the advice on how to use them is extremely easy to follow. Once launched, each scan will take approximately five minutes and will then display the information the cleaner believes is redundant and not needed, giving you the option to erase it. Once finished, your computer will run smoother and operate more efficiently.

When companies are trying to avoid the potential for infiltration and corruption in their e-mail system, one of the options that is available for them to consider is to create a business private e-mail network or PEN. Not only is this a completely attainable goal for any company that wants to make their email network more secure, but it is becoming increasingly necessary as businesses need to be capable of protecting their private and personal information in more secure ways.

Private Email Messages With enough persistence, someone that is interested in breaking into your company’s private email messages certainly can do so. This is especially possible when it comes to open WiFi locations. Not only could they potentially read sensitive information in the emails traveling between members of your company, but there is also potential there for them to manipulate and change the information in those documents to harm your business. Proprietary information can be stolen and email messages can be forwarded on, altered or not, without anyone being wise to the fact that the message was ever intercepted. This can spell disaster for an unprepared company.

For all types of companies then, regardless of the types of information that are regularly sent via email message with encrypted email service, it has become necessary for you to choose an email client that is secure and that will protect the information stored in email messages as it is being sent. The best idea is going to be to use an open architecture type of system that is going to be supported well into your company’s future rather than choosing a more proprietary system that will only last for a few years.

What a Private Email Network (PEN) A Private Email Network or PEN attempts to achieve is to pass email messages around only within the company on a local or intranet level, meaning that the email messages are never vulnerable to hackers because they are not being exposed to the internet at large. When employees at your company communicate through the Private Email Network, they are communicating only within your company’s own office building, which means that private correspondence is kept safe and secure, and you can rest assured that your proprietary information and personal communications are being kept completely private.

For example, the email2 platform enables your organization to create a Private Email Network, a trusted channel for confidential conversations with colleagues, stakeholders and clients.

There are a number of different turnkey systems that are available for companies large and small that are looking to create a local, private email network that can be relied on for correspondence within the company without a threat of outside interests getting in. The best systems typically involve the use of a simple program that makes sending email within the private email network easy and intuitive, behaving as a normal email system would, though the email messages never leave the closed loop system and therefore they are never vulnerable to attacks. This is the best way to protect your company’s private correspondence from prying, outside eyes.
