The Glory and Hazards Of The Internet

There has been a lot of discussion lately about recent technological inventions. There is new decade upon us, and this is always a time to look back and admire our accomplishments. What is likely the most agreed upon useful invention of the last decade, if not the last century, is the Internet.

It’s easy to see why this is such an obvious choice. The Internet provides many different things to many different people. Many people use the Internet as their main form of entertainment, and can find many different outlets for that desire. Videos, music, chat rooms, forums and other means of communication are becoming more and more popular.

Information is another reason why the Internet has literally exploded. This big debate recently has been whether to continue to provide free news content, or to charge money for it. There are those that believe that news should not be free. These are usually those that have invested quite a bit in print media, and stand to lose a lot of money if people continue to get their news through the Internet rather than a printed newspaper.

The original reason for the invention of the Internet is still a main reason for it’s existence today. Academic research has grown by leaps and bounds with the increase in connectivity. International collaboration, document searching and other forms of research have all been made possible by the Internet.

Of course, with all this connection, there is plenty of room for abuse. There are several malicious software programs that have been developed for the sole purpose of causing destruction, or at the very least a compromise of your personal data and security.
